List Server Acceptable Use Policy

It is the intention of Instructional Technologies that this list server be used by a wide variety of groups to assist in academic, administrative, and professional advancement. We do, however, ask that users review and adhere to this simple policy. There isn't much to it right now, and we hope that it will remain that way. This policy may change from time to time in order to address issues that threaten the quality and usefulness of this service.

  1. NO SPAM
    • Lists may not be used to distribute unsolicited commercial email.
  2. STAY LEGAL
    • Lists may not be used for illegal activities.

Conditions of Use

List managers must agree to a few conditions in order to make use of this service.

  1. ACCEPTABLE USE
    • List managers must adhere to the List Server Acceptable Use Policy above.
  2. ALLOW UNSUBSCRIBES
    • List members must be allowed to unsubscribe from lists if they choose. List managers may not re-subscribe an address unless the recipient has given permission to do so.
  3. INACTIVE LISTS
    • In order to conserve computing resources and extend the availability of this service to as many people as possible, Instructional Technologies may remove a list that has seen no messages in over one year. List managers will receive email notice before their list is removed and may contact the listmaster with any concerns.
  4. SUPPORT
    • If you have any problems with this service, please email the listmaster. We will try to assist you, and we may refer you to another resource for problems we cannot solve.
  5. LIST NAMING
    • In general, our policy is to allow the list requestor to decide the name of his or her list. We may suggest an alternative name if the requested name conflicts with an existing list name, if we feel the name is not descriptive of the list's specific audience, or that the list name may be confusing. For example, if the International Telecommunications Society were to request a list named "its@groups.txstate.edu", we may suggest "IntlTelecomSoc@groups.txstate.edu" or something similar to avoid confusion with our own department's acronym (and besides, we already have a list by that name).
