Turnitin Feedback Studio in Canvas Assignments

The Canvas built-in Plagiarism Framework provides a simplified plagiarism detection using Canvas SpeedGrader, while the External Tool offers full Turnitin functionality.

Create Turnitin Assignment Using Feedback Studio

  1. Click Assignments in the Canvas Course site.
  2. Click the ellipsis icon next to +Assignment button and select Turnitin.

  1. Enter the title of the assignment.
  2. Enter the maximum points the students can earn for the assignment.
  3. Enter the dates and time the assignment is due and the date and time for feedback to be released. 
  4. Select Optional Settings to expand and view additional Turnitin settings.
  5. Set Submission Settings
    1. Standard paper repository: This will allow Turnitin to use the stored document to make similarity checks against any document submitted in the future.
    2. Institution paper repository:  Similarity checks will only be made by other instructors within our institution.
    3. Do Not Store the submitted papers: Turnitin will not store a copy of the paper and will only be processed for initial similarity checks.
  6. The teacher can then optionally choose from the following settings:
  7. The teacher can choose when the similarity checks are generated and what to exclude in the checks.
  8. The teacher can choose what sources the submitted paper will be compared to.
  9. If the teacher plans to use the selected settings, they can choose to save them for future use.
  10. Click Submit and the assignment will be created.
