Calculate Late Attendance

Count X late(s) as 1 absence

X represents the number of times an attendance record marked late will be counted as an absence.

NOTE: No partial credit is recorded. An attendance point will not be lost until each new X value is reached

Examples:
  1. The Attendance Grade Item is worth 10 points.
  2. 10 percentage points are set to be deducted per absence.
  3. 2 Late marks will be counted as 1 absence.

  1. Student A was late for 3 class meetings.
  2. 2 Late marks = 1 Absence
  3. 1 Absence = -10% points
  4. 10% points deducted per absence x 10 Grade Item points = 1 lost point
  5. 10 points – 1 lost point = 9 Attendance grade

Give partial credit for a late X %

"X" represents the percentage points a student will earn for a class meeting in which they are marked late.

Example:
  1. The Attendance Grade Item is worth 10 points.
  2. 10 percentage points are set to be deducted per absence.
  3. 75% credit is set to be given for students marked Late.

  1. Student A was marked Late for 3 class meetings, so Student A will lose 25 percentage points for each Late mark.
  2. 25% penalty x 3 Lates = 75% of an absence
  3. 75% absence x 10 percentage points per absence = 7.5% point penalty
  4. 7.5% x 10 Grade Item points = .75 lost points from attendance
  5. 10 Grade Item points - .75 lost points = 9.25 Attendance grade.

NOTES:
  •  The Count  X  late(s) as 1 absence option does not perform any partial scoring, and only counts absences based on the number entered in the "___ late(s)" field.
    • For example, if 2 Late marks are set to be counted as 1 absence, and a student has 3 Late marks, they will not have a 2nd absence until they receive a 4th Late mark. Entering the number "2" in the field sets the lates-to-absences ratio to work in increments of 2.
