Claim Your NetID Account

Use this guide to claim and activate your NetID account. If your account has not been claimed, the Forgot Password feature will not work until the claim process is completed.

Note: The Brave browser may not work correctly with the account claim process. If you experience issues, please use another browser.

 

Step-by-step guide

  1. In Online Toolkit click Claim Your Identity

A sign-in page displays the “Claim Your Identity” link beneath the login options and “First Time Here?” prompt. The highlighted link indicates where new users can begin the identity claim process.

  1. Click Next

The Identity Claiming Portal welcome screen provides an introduction to the account claim process and explains that the wizard will help users set their password and verify their identity. The Next button is highlighted as the option to continue.

  1. Select identity type.
    • Texas State Person - Staff, Faculty, Students, Retirees, Volunteers, TSUS Staff, Temp Agency Workers, Non-paid faculty.
    • Guest & Vendors - Guest

A Select Identity Type page prompts users to choose between Texas State Person and Guests & Vendors. The two options are displayed as large selection tiles used to begin the appropriate identity claim workflow.

  1. Enter in ID number or NetID and the SSN or DOB.
    • If all 4 fields are entered, it will work. If there is no SSN/DOB on file, it will not work. Users need to delete the SSN/DOB if there is not one on file.
      • If activating SU account, enter SU instead of NetID. Users still must use DOB. 

A Locate Your Identity page prompts users to verify their identity by entering a Texas State A-number or NetID along with either the last four digits of a Social Security number or a date of birth. The form includes required fields and Back and Submit buttons for proceeding with the identity claim process.

  1. Confirmation link was sent to email address. See if email address is wrong.

A confirmation page titled “Thank You” indicates that a password reset or claim-related email has been sent to the user’s registered email address. The page provides instructions for checking the email and includes a Start Over button for restarting the process if needed.

  1. You will receive an email from ITAC that you can only click on ONCE. You will need to restart the process if you need a new link.

An email from the IT Assistance Center contains a link for continuing the identity claim process. The message instructs the recipient to click the provided URL to complete account verification and setup.

  1. Scroll through the Terms and Conditions page. You cannot check the box to agree until you scroll. Select I agree and next.

A Terms and Conditions page displays the university’s communication policy and requires users to consent before continuing the identity claim process. The page includes a checkbox to acknowledge the terms and a Next button to proceed.

  1. Enter the email that will be used for password recovery and if you consent to alerts.

A Setup Recovery Information page prompts users to enter or confirm recovery details, including a recovery email address, mobile phone number, and alert notification phone number.

  1. An automated email will send a 6 digit code to the personal email address. The code is valid for 30 minutes.

An email titled “Contact Verification PIN” from the IT Assistance Center provides a one-time PIN for validating the Recovery Email field during the account setup or identity verification process. The message includes the verification code and identifies the Texas State University Information Security Team as the sender.

  1. Enter in the code and click validate.

An Action Required dialog prompts the user to enter a PIN sent to a recovery email address to verify account changes. The screen includes PIN entry fields, a Resend link, a countdown timer, and Cancel and Validate buttons.

  1. Fill out the device information and select submit. 

A Duo Device Registration form allows users to register a device for Duo Mobile authentication by entering a device name, platform type, country code, and phone number. The form also includes a confirmation checkbox to verify the phone number before submission.​​​​​​​

  1. Select Activate using DUO Mobile

A verification method selection page displays “Activate using DUO Mobile” as the highlighted option for completing Duo enrollment. Additional options allow verification through email, and a Skip Activation button is available to continue without immediate setup.

  1. If using phone device select Open in Duo Mobile app.
    1. A Duo Mobile activation page provides instructions for registering a device and includes a highlighted “Open in the Duo Mobile app” link. A QR code is displayed below the instructions as an alternative method for completing device activation.
    2. Save the account on Duo.
  2. If using non-mobile, scan the QR code and add the account in the Duo mobile app.
    • Download the Duo app and save the account.
  3. Enter the password twice and select Reset Password. It will automatically display the password requirements in real time as you type.

A Set Up Password page prompts the user to create and confirm a password for their account. The form includes password visibility controls, a password strength indicator, and a Reset Password button for submitting the new password.​​​​​​​

  1. Complete!

​​​​​​​An Identity Claim Completed! confirmation page indicates that the identity claim process has been successfully completed. A Complete button is provided to continue to the next step or finish the process.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
