How to Set Up F5 Remote Access VPN using a Mac

To get full VPN access, your computer must be up-to-date with its anti-virus software (or have Gatekeepr enabled) and have a firewall in place. To troubleshoot firewall issues, contact ITAC.

NOTE:  Firefox is the recommended web browser for VPN.
 

There are two steps needed to connect to the VPN:

After completing these two steps, you will be able to use a variety of campus resources otherwise restricted to using while on campus.

Step 1: Install the F5 Endpoint Inspection Scanning Software

Endpoint Inspection scans your computer for vulnerabilities before allowing you to access the VPN. After you log in, you will be prompted to download Endpoint Inspection.

  1. Go to https://remoteaccess.txstate.edu.
  2. Enter your NetID and password, and click Login.
  3. Complete NetID 2-Step authentication.
  4. Click Download.

  5. If prompted, to open F5 VPN, click Open F5 VPN.

    The software will download to the computer's Download Disk.
     
  6. In the computer's Dock, click the download folder.

  7. In the Install F5 Endpoint Inspector window, click Continue.

    NOTE: You may be prompted to enter your computer's password to install the software. If you do not know the password, please contact your departmental TSP or the IT Assistance Center.

    The F5 Networks Endpoint Inspector software will open. The link needs to be opened with an application.
     
  10. Click Open F5 Endpoint Inspector.

    NOTE : If you will be using VPN frequently, check the box for Always open these types of links in the associated app.
     
  11. If you are presented with a security alert that the site "remoteaccess.txstate.edu" is attempting to inspect your system configuration if the site is not on your Trusted Sites list, click Always allow inspection from this site.

    You will see a status bar as the software scans your system.

Step 2: Connect to the VPN

  1. Under Network Access, click Connect VPN.

  2. When prompted to run the installer, click Download.

  3. If prompted to Open F5 VPN?, click Open F5 VPN.

    The software will download.
     
  4. Once complete, mount the download disk in the Dock by clicking the download folder.

  5. Open the disk, and install the software.

    Once you open the disk, the install window will open.
     
  6. Click Continue.

  9. If prompted to Open F5 VPN?, click Open F5 VPN.

    NOTE : If you will be using VPN frequently, check the box for Always open these types of links in the associated app.

    A window will open showing the software connecting to the VPN. Once the software is connected, it will minimize into the system tray.

    You are now connected to the VPN.

 

Now that your device is connected, you can access several apps such as these:

  • Class Database - your class may use VPN to connect to a database on campus
  • Remote Desktop Connection - allows you to remote to your work computer
  • SAP Business Client - allows you to access this software from off-campus
  • Department Share Drive or UDrive - allows you to access your files from off-campus
