New Quizzes - Create Item Banks

NOTE: Item Banks will not be available in a Canvas course site until a Quiz using the New Quizzes engine has been created.

  • Item Banks are question pools used exclusively in New Quizzes.
  • You can use your item banks in any course where you have permission to create and edit a quiz using New Quizzes.

Create an Item Bank

In Course Navigation, click Item Banks.  You may also access Item Banks from the New Quizzes Build page.

  1. Click + Bank.
  2. In the Bank Name field,enter the name of the item bank.
  3. Share the new item bank to the current course by clicking the Share checkbox.
  4. Click the Create Bank button to save the item bank.
  5. The new item bank will appear when selecting the Shared With Me and Shared With Courses view.

You can now begin adding questions into the new Item Bank.

Add a Question to an Item Bank

In Course Navigation, click Item Banks

  1. Under the Filter By drop-list, click Shared with Me if the Item Bank is not appearing by default. 
  2. Click the title of the Item Bank.
  3. Click + New.
  4. Select a new question type.
  5. Create the new question.
  6. Click Done to save the question to the Item Bank.

Create a Question and Add It To An Item Bank in Quiz Creation Process

  1. Click Quizzes and select the quiz title or + Quiz to create a new quiz
  2. Click Build.
  3. Click + to add and select a new question type.

  1. Create the new question.
  2. Click Item Banking drop-menu to expand options.
  3. Click Add to Bank.
  4. Select New item bank and enter the new bank title in the available field or select to add it to an existing item bank. 
  5. Click Add.
    1. NOTE: This method does not share a newly created Item Bank with the course.
  6. Click Item Banks either in New Quizzes build page or in course navigation.
  7. Under the Filter By drop-list, select Shared with Me and the Item Bank will appear.
  8. Select the title of the item bank to open it. Select the checkbox in the upper left corner to share the item bank with the current site.
