Windows Anti-Virus Protection

The Microsoft Anti-Virus Protection suite provides full malware (anti-virus and spyware) protection. It contains advanced protection features to protect you and our campus community.

  • Available to:  Faculty, Staff
  • Where to use: Texas State Windows computers
  • Cost: Free

Get Started

  • For personally-owned computers: Visit the Microsoft Windows Defender website.
  • For Texas State-owned computers: Your computer must be a member of the Texas State (TXSTATE) domain.
  • Your computer must be managed. Most computers on the TXSTATE domain are managed. (If you do not have Software Center, your computer is not managed.)

If you have questions about the prerequisites, please contact ITAC or your department's technical support person (TSP) before proceeding.

Installation Instructions

  1. Open Software Center.
  2. Locate and install the software.

  • Microsoft Endpoint Protection is available to all Texas State Windows computers.
  • Window Security is free and available via Microsoft's website for use on personal Windows 11 computers.
  • Windows Defender is automatically installed on Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 computers but must be turned on.
