On October 14, 2025, Microsoft will end support for the Windows 10 operating system. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for computers using Windows 10. To help keep TXST information and data secure, after support ends, Windows 10 computers will no longer be allowed to connect to the TXST wired or wireless network.
Project Timeline
To assist our campus community with moving off of Windows 10 prior to Microsoft's end of support, we have established the following project timeline:
- Now through May 30, 2025 - Free Windows 10 re-imaging to Windows 11 on supported TXST computers (delivery and data backup not included)
- August 30, 2025 - University goal for TXST Windows 10 computers to be upgraded to Windows 11
- October 14, 2025 - Microsoft Windows 10 End of Life
- After October 14, 2025 - Windows 10 computers cannot connect to the TXST network
August 30 Campus Goal: Upgrade all TXST computers to Windows 11
Since the Windows 10 end of life will occur before the start of the Spring 2026 semester, it is important that all TXST Windows 10 computers be upgraded to Windows 11 before the Fall 2025 semester ends. Therefore, we have set a campus goal for TXST computers to upgrade to Windows 11 by August 30, 2025.
We need your help to accomplish this goal. ITAC will work closely with faculty, staff, Department Heads, and Technical Support Staff (TSPs) to offer the following support, information, and services:

FAQs
How do I know if my computer is Windows 11 compatible?
There are two ways to know.
- Check for the Windows 11 Upgrade option
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
- Look for Windows 11, version 23H2 or 24H2
- Click Download and install
- This process typically takes 60–90 minutes.
- Be sure to back up your files before starting.
- If you do not see the Windows 11 Upgrade option submit a Windows 11 Readiness Report Request.
How can I get Windows 11?
- Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) – Canvas training required
- Request advertisement in Software Center (SCCM)
- ITAC Service Centers
- Install the upgrade here
How do I know if my software will work on Windows 11?
Several software options will work on Windows 11; however, please contact the software vendor.
What if I have a need to remain on Windows 10?
If you have a legitimate business reason why a computer in your department cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, please complete the Windows 10 Exception Request.
The Information Security Office will review each request and require a signed policy from the device owner and their supervisor. Approved exceptions are valid for one year, allowing departments time needed to replace or decommission the device during the FY26 fiscal year. Refer to the form for acceptable reasons.
If an exception is approved, an Extended Security Update (ESU) license will be applied after Windows 10 reaches end of support in October. More details on that process will follow.
As noted in the description of requirements, there may be workarounds for common compatibility issues. For example, if a device lacks sufficient hard drive space, a simple reimage to Windows 11 may resolve the issue. Similarly, some BIOS-related requirements (such as SecureBoot and UEFI) can often be addressed through configuration changes during the reimage process.
