Zoom for Personal Windows and Mac Computers

Body

System Requirements

Zoom can be used across a variety of devices. For desktops and laptops, ensure your system meets the following requirements:

Get Started

  • The most up-to-date web browser
  • An Internet connection
  • Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
  • A webcam or HD webcam - built-in or USB plug-in

If you have questions about these prerequisites, please contact ITAC or your department's technical support person (TSP) before proceeding.

Settings Requirements

  • MacOS and Windows users are required to update to the latest minimum version on TXST devices

Note: Often times the minimum required version tends to be a few version behind the latest version available and if users are up-to-date they should ideally not notice a change. Only the outdated outliers will begin to see the blurb to update their client in order to proceed.

Installation Instructions

There are two ways to use Zoom on your computer:

Option 1 - Download Zoom for Desktop

When you start or join your first Zoom meeting, you should be prompted to download the software. Otherwise, get the download here. You may also want to install the Zoom Plugin for Outlook to make scheduling meetings a breeze.

Option 2 - Use the Zoom Web App

The Zoom web app allows joining a Zoom meeting or webinar directly from a web browser without the need for extra plugins or software. The web version, however, has limited features compared to the desktop app.
