How Your Progress is Tracked
- Always begin your Coursera assignments from Canvas.
- Complete the assigned Coursera modules and assessment until you receive a grade.
- Your completion status and grade will automatically sync back to Canvas.
- Grade synchronization may take up to 48 hours after you finish your work.
Troubleshooting
I can't access Coursera.
- Make sure you launched Coursera from Canvas, not by visiting Coursera directly.
- Sign in with your Texas State NetID, if prompted.
- If you've previously logged into Coursera with another account, sign out and relaunch from Canvas.
My grade hasn't appeared in Canvas.
- Wait up to 48 hours for the grade to sync.
- Confirm you've completed all required activities in the assigned Coursera content (green checkmark).
- If your grade still hasn't synced after 48 hours, contact ITAC.
Faculty Instructions
Before Students Begin
To help prevent access and grade synchronization issues, remind students to:
- Set their default Canvas email to their Texas State NetID email address (Settings → Default Email).
- Launch Coursera only through Canvas using the Coursera assignment or module link.
- Sign in using their Texas State NetID if prompted.
- Verify that their Coursera account is associated with their Texas State NetID email rather than a personal or alias email address.
These steps ensure the Coursera account is correctly linked to the student's Canvas enrollment.
Grade Synchronization
The Coursera LTI integration automatically syncs student completion and grades to Canvas.
For successful grade synchronization:
- Students should always access Coursera through Canvas.
- Students must complete all required Coursera activities and assessments associated with the assignment.
- Grades may take up to 48 hours to appear in the Canvas Gradebook after completion.
No manual grade import is required under normal operation.
Common Support Issues
Students cannot access Coursera
If a student reports an access issue:
- Confirm they launched Coursera from Canvas rather than navigating directly to Coursera.
- Verify they authenticated using their Texas State NetID.
- If they have previously used Coursera with a personal account, have them sign out of Coursera completely and relaunch the activity from Canvas.
Grades are not syncing to Canvas
If a student's grade has not appeared:
- Confirm the student completed all required Coursera activities (indicated by completion checkmarks in Coursera).
- Allow up to 48 hours for the grade synchronization process to complete.
- If the grade has not synchronized after 48 hours, refer the student to ITAC for additional troubleshooting.
Best Practices
- Include clear instructions in your course directing students to launch Coursera from Canvas for every activity.
- Encourage students to verify their Canvas default email before beginning the first Coursera assignment.
- Remind students that grade synchronization is not immediate and may require up to 48 hours.
