Often teachers will want to reuse their previously taught Canvas course content into their new semester course.
New Quizzes is now enabled in Canvas which allows teachers to convert their old quizzes in the Classic Quiz format into the New Quizzes format during course import/course copy process.
To reuse the previous course content, the teacher may need the following information to begin this process:
- Name of the original Canvas course and the semester term and year the course was taught.
- URL of the original Canvas course or the Canvas course ID.
NOTE: Avoid using Copy Course Content with live Canvas courses as similarly named or identically named content with submissions and grades may be permanently overwritten.
How To Copy Canvas Course Content Into A New Site and Convert to New Quizzes
- Go the the Course and Project Creation tool and create a new Canvas site.
- Once the new course has been created, go to it.

- Click Import and the import will queue and begin to import.
- After the import process has completed, click Quizzes.
- Notification that Classic quizzes have been converted will appear on screen and all quizzes will now be in New Quizzes format.
